A team of ‘We for We’, a global campaign for women’s empowerment which is presently touring India, visited some schools for slum children, slum areas at Zuaringar in Vasco and interacted with people over issues of women. They also took stock of their health problems, education and other issues, including possibilities of micro-financing the traditional occupations of some women so as to help them earn a living, said Diana Irina Boancoa, former Miss Bikini International-2010, representing Romania, on Tuesday.
The team comprises a few winners of various past beauty contests held across the world. The team also made women aware about domestic violence, gender discrimination and to fight against female foeticide and other health issues like awareness of breast cancer and cervical cancer, said Carmin Martinee, former Miss Europe 2007.
"Women’s problems are the same everywhere. But it is painful to know that female foeticide is still prevalent in many parts of India. We are educating people to change their mindset and come out of the girl-boy inequality," said Jennifer Shell de Heneral.
The team was on a month-long tour of India which started from New Delhi and will end at Bhopal on October 31.
