The West Bengal government on Thursday filed an affidavit, in which it stated its position on a plea for a CBI probe into the killing of seven persons on January 7 in Lalgarh and existence of camps of armed CPI(M) cadre, before the Calcutta High Court on its direction.

The Principal Secretary (Home), G D Gautama, went to the Oath Commissioner to sign the documents before servicing of the copies to the petitioner.

The affidavit would be placed before the court of Chief Justice J N Patel and Justice A K Roy on Friday morning when the PIL, filed by the Calcutta High Court Bar Association, would be taken up for hearing.

The division bench had directed the West Bengal government to explain its position on the pleas for a CBI probe on the existence of armed camps and steps to dismantle them besides the plea for interim compensation to the kin of the dead and injured.

The matter would come up for hearing on Friday.
