WANO representatives visit Kaiga plant

Representatives of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) visited the Kaiga Atomic Power Station on Thursday and held a meeting with officials of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India.

The exact number of WANO representatives who visited the plant was kept secret for security reasons, sources said.

The visit had nothing to do with the recent tritium episode at the plant; the purpose was to exchange data about the safety of nuclear plants and enhance security at nuclear power stations, the sources said.

The WANO team, which arrived from Goa on Thursday morning, held a meeting, which the NPCI authorities described as routine.
