Voting for the election of six municipal corporations in Gujarat consisting of major urban areas of the State, will be held tomorrow.

The BJP and the main opposition party Congress had extensively campaigned for the municipal polls by roping in their national leaders.

The BJP made the arrest of Amit Shah, close aide of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, by CBI in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case as one of the main issues as all its national leaders alleged that the arrest amounted to misuse of CBI by the Congress and urged people to give reply with ballot paper.

The Congress on the other hand had focused more on local issues saying that the corporation polls were about civic amenities and highlighted assistance given to the state under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission for development of infrastructure in cities.

All the six municipal corporations -Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Jamangar and Bhavnagar were won by the BJP in the last elections.

More than 86 lakh voters in the six cities will be eligible to exercise their franchise tomorrow (Sunday), secretary of State Elections Commission P. S. Shah said.

Over 2,100 candidates are in fray for the 558 seats in six municipal corporations, he added.
