The voter turnout has been on the rise in Tripura over the recent years. From 67.4 per cent in 2004 it rose to 80.45 per cent in 2009 Lok Sabha polls, but the State created a national record with 92 per cent polling in the Feb. 2013 Assembly elections.

Chief Electoral Officer Ashutosh Jindal appealed to the electorate to maintain this tradition in the coming Lok Sabha polls. “Roughly 375 [total 3095] polling stations have been identified as sensitive. Elaborate security measures have been made,” Mr. Jindal told journalists.

Election to West Tripura constituency will be held on April 7 and East Tripura on April 12.
