One person was killed in a clash between two communities and about 30 were injured in separate incidents of violence during the second phase of the Rajasthan panchayat elections on Sunday.
Members of two communities clashed and opened fire over an old rivalry during polling at Kot village in Dausa district, leaving one person dead and about 15 injured. According to police sources, Vijay Meena’s body was found on the roadside at Monapura village near Kot.
While the police were looking for the persons responsible for starting the clash by opening fire, the election for the posts of sarpanch and ward panch was not affected for, the violence occurred some distance from polling booths.
In another clash near a booth at Elalkhori village of Jodhpur district, two groups hurled stones at each other following an altercation, leaving 14 people injured.
Polling was held for electing 2,960 sarpanches and 34,683 ward panches in 85 panchayat samiti areas in 30 districts.
State Election Commissioner A. K. Pandey said over 80 per cent of the electorate had exercised their franchise.
He said re-polling was likely at two stations in Dausa district and one in Sikar district due to disruptions.
Mr. Pandey said polling was not affected at other places despite the incidents of booth capturing, snatching of electronic voting machines and quarrels among supporters of rival candidates reported from Bharatpur and Alwar districts.

Re-polling, wherever necessary, would be held on February 7. The third and final phase of elections for zila parishad and panchayat samiti members would take place on February 2.
