Violence erupted in Bihar’s Rohtas district on Sunday after the body of a minor girl was found in a village, with family members alleging that she was raped and murdered. Protesters burned a police jeep.

The police contested reports that the victim’s eyes were gouged out. “She was throttled to death, so the eyes could have popped out,” Additional Superintendent of Police A.K. Lal told The Hindu .

The 10-year-old went out to look for a goat’s kid on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, her body was found at Rajpur. “There are injuries on her private parts. There are no undergarments on her body,” Sub-divisional police officer (in charge) Ashish Anand said.

Her parents have lodged a complaint with the police, raising suspicions about a woman from the neighbouring quarters. The police were waiting for the post-mortem report. A team of forensic experts and a sniffer dog squad would reach Rohtas, Mr. Lal said.
