Over 10 villages around Maruti Suzuki India’s plant in Manesar on Saturday condemned violence at the factory in which one senior official was killed on Wednesday.
Heads of the villages, who met at Dhana village, said the guilty must be brought to book immediately while expressing support to the company.
“Existence of this plant is for the benefit of this region. Most of the surrounding villages of this plant are either directly or indirectly dependent on Maruti,” Dhana village Sarpanch Moolchand said.
Farukh Nagar market committee ex-chairman Maan Singh Yadav said, “We want industries to stay here and we will support by all means. We want the culprits to be punished.”
Expressing concerns over reports of Maruti Suzuki moving out of Manesar, Mr. Moolchand said: “We will not allow the company and the government to shift the plant out of Manesar.”
The company management has already denied that it was moving out of Manesar and said it was committed to the investments it had announced to be made in Haryana.
Heads of villages, including that of Alier, Dhana, Manesar, Kasan, Basskusla, Kankrola, Bangrola, Kho, Pukharpur, Naharpur and Nawada, took part in the meeting. They also went inside the plant to meet officials and police deployed there.
A maha panchayat has been scheduled to be held on Monday at Dhana village to express solidarity with the company.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police Gurgaon District Anil Kumar said 800-1,000 policemen are still inside the plant. “We are also giving protection to other sensitive locations. Our men are present at Suzuki Powertrain factory and Maruti’s Gurgaon plant,” Mr. Kumar said.
“The panchayat officials met us and expressed solidarity with the company. They said they are with the administration in punishing the guilty,” he added.

"The labour violence resulting into arson, anarchy and the worst, the
brutal murder of one the General HR Manager at Maruti -Suzuki Plant at
Manesar (Gurgoan) requires the MNCs to revisit their labour policies
and statutory compliance status in line with existing labour laws of
the land and to help the recognized Trade Unions to have a respectful
footing for acting as a safety valve. The middle managers should be
futher trained for dealing with workers, especially contractual
workers and at the same time to educate the workers in relation to
industrial synergy, harmony and partnership in business and the sense
of Trade Unionism. Any short cut majors to deal with labour problems
with help of extra-constitutional elements like contractors, goons
would be always counterproductive. In new global economy, no one could
ignore the best business practices based on ethics, compliance and
business acumen. Now in a fast globalized and civilized India, we can
not be an Ostrich.
It is rather unfortunate that the General Manager HR lost his life in
the violence at Maruti Suzuki Plant at Manesar. The police and State
Government should have acted earlier to prevent loss of life and
property. Villagers around the Plant showing support to the Management
is a positive sign and shows that people realise that Industries are
beneficial to their economic development. The Government should
ensure that such violence is not repeated. It doesn't help anyone, not
even the workers who indulged in it. Obviously some outside forces
must have been involved and it is for the Government and State police
to identify such culprits who encourage violence and bring them to
book. On their own, the workers are well aware that violence does not
benefit them. It ultimately backfires on them and their families
suffer the consequences !!!
