: BJP councillor Shobha Vijender on Monday hit out against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Alka Lamba, who had last week claimed that Ms. Vijender had received favours because she was the wife of Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta.

On day two of the special session of the Delhi Assembly on June 10, Ms. Lamba had said that Ms. Vijender was appointed the head of the Hardayal Municipal Library by then Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation Azad Singh as a favour to her husband. Ms. Lamba went on to question the appointment, which had been quashed by the High Court. Later, Ms. Vijender was again appointed the member-secretary of the library’s committee and holds the post till today.

“The allegations are completely baseless. I was appointed twice by two different Mayors because they deemed me fit for the job,” said Ms. Vijender.

Ms. Lamba had also alleged that Ms. Vijender and her husband had met Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung and successfully got Rs.3 crore in funding for the library. The MLA had alleged that this money had been misused.

“I met Mr. Jung on my own. The fact that my husband was not present can be verified from the visitor’s log at the Lieutenant-Governor’s office. Not a single rupee of that Rs.3 crore has been received by us so far,” said Ms. Vijender.

Responding to the allegation that she had hired unqualified staff, Ms. Vijender said that in fact there had been no recruitments in her tenure.

“I will be filing a defamation case against Ms. Lamba soon. She is spreading these lies on social media as well,” said Ms. Vijender.
