Two videos of girls being molested in Gaya district of Bihar went viral on social media on Monday. Police have arrested two persons involved in one incident.
Earlier, rape and molestation videos from Jehanabad and Naubatpur area of Patna district had gone viral on social media. Police had arrested 14 youths, including four minors, in the Jehanabad case. The more recent videos have come from Tarwan village under Wazirganj police station of Gaya district. In both the videos, groups of men molest girls.
“In the first case, we have arrested two persons and identified all six of them involved in it…in the second video too the process of identification of those involved is on and very soon we will arrest all of them and appeal for speedy trial against them in the court”, said S.K. Singhal, Additional Director General of Police.
Gaya Superintendent of Police Rajiv Mishra told journalists that police have lodged an FIR at Wazirganj in both the cases and have arrested two persons — Vijay Yadav and Suresh Chaudhury — in one case.
Meanwhile, the controversial remarks by some state BJP leaders over the rise of such incidents has triggered a political storm in the State. “People should not make love in open and at isolated places... others also get attracted... if they have to make love they should do it behind doors,” senior State BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member C.P. Thakur. Vinod Narayan Jha, a BJP MLA and a Minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet, said that “there cannot be a crime-free society…but, police will take stern action against those involved in such heinous crime”.
However, senior State BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi appealed to the public to help the government in curbing such incidents.
The Opposition RJD and Congress leaders have slammed the ruling NDA alliance over the rise of such incidents in the state. “If the government is not able to curb such incidents it means there is a lack of coordination between the ruling alliance partners BJP and JD(U). The Chief Minister should resign if he is not able to provide safety and security to the common people,” said State Congress (in-charge) chief Kaukab Quadri
RJD MLA and party spokesperson Shakti Yadav said, “Such incidents of rape and [the making of] molestation videos have been happening regularly in the state and State BJP leaders have been making bizarre statements…its seems the rule of law has completely collapsed in the State.”
