Veteran CPI(M) leader Chitta Chanda dies

The deceased was suffering from old age complications and was admitted in G.B. Panth Hospital from July 20. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and all senior brass of the CPI(M) had visited the ailing leader.

Veteran leader of CPI (M) in Tripura and former Chairman of party’s state control commission, Chitta Chanda, passed away at a government hospital in Agartala on Monday evening. The bachelor leader who also participated in India’s freedom struggle was 95.

The deceased was suffering from old age complications and was admitted in G.B. Panth Hospital from July 20. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and all senior brass of the CPI(M) had visited the ailing leader.

Chitta Chanda became member of undivided communist party in 1960 and joined CPI(M) in 1964 after division of the party. He served prison sentences on three separate terms.

The corpse has been kept in divisional party office here and his last rites would be performed tomorrow. CPI(M) state secretariat, state committee and party’s all units condoled demise of the veteran leader.
