Vehicle falls into gorge, 3 Army men killed

An Army officer and two soldiers were killed and four injured in a road accident in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district early on Tuesday.

According to the Army, the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Sarkoli near the Kalaroos forests in Kupwara, about 140 km northwest of Srinagar.

A major Army operation against militants is going on in the Kalaroos forests for the past eight days.

“Three of our men, including a Major, were killed and four were injured in the accident,” a Srinagar-based Army spokesperson said.

The deceased are Major Inderjeet Surjeet Singh of Pune and sepoys R. Ranjit of Tamil Nadu and Pushvinder Singh of Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
