Varun’s supporters show irk at BJP MP

September 23, 2014 03:08 am | Updated 03:08 am IST - LUCKNOW:

In a major embarrassment to the BJP, alleged supporters of its Sultanpur MP Varun Gandhi on Monday pelted stones at the house of party’s Allahabad MP Shyama Charan Gupta after he reportedly criticised Varun’s mother and Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi for propping up her son’s name as party’s Chief Ministerial candidate in the State.

The incident follows the BJP’s loss at the hands of the Samajwadi Party in the Assembly by-polls. This had prompted Ms. Gandhi to quip that the BJP’s leadership in the State could be handed over to Mr. Gandhi. Earlier also Ms. Gandhi had made a similar statement.
