Anticipating trouble during Id-ul-Azha on Saturday, security agencies have detained separatist leaders and stepped up vigil in Kashmir.
Busy markets, however, lifted the mood in the Valley.
Among the separatist leaders detained are JKLF chief Yasin Malik, who was shifted to the Central Jail here. Dukhtaran-e-Millat chief Asiya Andrabi, whose detention under the Public Safety Act was quashed by the court recently, has been shifted to a Jammu jail.
As part of security measures, the administration has barred Id prayers on the TRC Grounds here.
Attack warning
A police official said there were Intelligence reports of militants groups “planning to carry out attacks”.
Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is scheduled to lead the prayers at the Idgah here.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti hoped the day would “bring an everlasting joy, peace and happiness to the people of the State”.
“It is important to remember families, especially children, who lost their near and dear ones to violence on this Id,” National Conference working president Omar Abdullah said.
United Jehad Council chief Syed Salahuddin said: “Real Id will be when we get to decide our fate by our own will.”
The Valley saw a major rush of shoppers, bringing relief to shopkeepers affected by multiple shutdowns this year. Violence has left nearly 250 people, including civilians, dead this year.
