The BJP Member of Parliament and city Mayor Balkrishna Shukla has written a letter reminding Union Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel about his assurance to resume Air India’s evening Mumbai-Vadodara flight, which was suspended in November last year.
Talking to PTI here on Thursday, Mr. Shukla said during his February visit to the city in connection with the laying of foundation stone for Rs 130-crore terminal building at the airport, Mr. Patel had promised to resume this flight.
The Minister had also promised to retain the Air India’s office premises located in posh Fatehgunj locality, he said.
The national carrier already has its office on Vasna Road here and wanted to close down the Fatehgunj facility.
The passengers from Vadodara, Anand, Kaira, Panchmahals, Bharuch and Dohad districts, falling in central Gujarat, prefer to travel from the city.
The resumption of the evening fight will make it convenient for them to get connected international flights from Mumbai in the night, Mr. Shukla said in the letter.
Air India suspended the flight without citing any reason.
Another MP Bharatsinh Parmar, who is also Gujarat BJP General Secretary, said he would take up the issue with the Civil Aviation Ministry and raise it in Parliament.
