Uttarakhand Minister dies

Uttarakhand Transport Minister and BSP MLA from Bhagwanpur Vidhan Sabha seat Surendra Rakesh succumbed to cancer at a hospital in Gurgaon on Saturday.

Rakesh, who was receiving a treatment for lung cancer was hospitalised since October, last year.

The 48-year-old Minister was diagnosed with lung cancer in July 2013. Rakesh held the post of Minister of Transport and Social Welfare in the Harish Rawat Cabinet. He was a member of the Progressive Democratic Front that supports the Congress government in Uttarakhand.

In March, last year, Rakesh was suspended from the BSP for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.
