Three constables of Uttarakhand police were arrested for allegedly plotting a robbery worth Rs 3 crore from a jewellery shop in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month.
Constables Pramod Kumar, Dipak Bisht and Pankaj Kumar were arrested from Rudrapur on charges of plotting a robbery at a jewellery shop in Bulandhshahr on September 11 by a jailed robber whom they were escorting to Aligarh for a hearing, Udhamsingh Nagar SSP Ridhim Agarwal said.
The trio have been arrested and taken to Lucknow by a team of Uttar Pradesh police, she said.
They were suspended soon after their names cropped up in the case, she said.
Suspicion arose about the involvement of these policemen in the case when UP police got a CCTV footage from the scene of the incident showing a helmet-wearing miscreant looting the jewellery shop at gunpoint in the presence of three men in uniform.
It came to light during interrogation of the accused cops that the man wearing the helmet in the footage was Manish Verma alias Satish lodged at Haldwani jail, who was being taken by these constables to make an appearance in an Aligarh court in connection with another robbery case.
