Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) seems to offer a lot of promise to industrialists, if the opinion aired by the Japanese and USA delegations on Friday is an indication.
A team from the US Consulate-General in Chennai visited Sri City on Friday to take stock of the facilities available at the new industrial city. The team comprising Principal Commercial Officer (South India) John Fleming, Political and Economic Officer Kalpana Murthy and economics specialist George Mathew was briefed by Sri City Managing Director Ravindra Sannareddy on the available infrastructure.
More than nine US companies, including brands like PepsiCo, Cadburys, Colgate and Kellogg’s have set up their units in Sri City, Mr. Sannareddy explained, indicating that India ranked high on the agenda of US companies and that the growth trajectory appeared rosy. Mr. Fleming expressed satisfaction at the industrial infrastructure and promised to recommend Sri City as the investment destination for US firms.
Meanwhile, a 50-member Japanese team comprising representatives from the Government and industry visited Sri City.
Headed by Minister of Economic Development Akio Isomata, the team comprised industry captains from Fuji Electric, Hitachi, Hitachi Zosen, ITOCHU, Japan Research Institute, JETRO, JGC Corp, JICA, Kajima, Marubeni, Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nikken Sekkei, Shimizu, Sumitomo, The Bank of Tokyo, Toshiba and Toyota.
