U.S. diplomat to visit Tripura

October 22, 2014 11:59 pm | Updated May 23, 2016 06:28 pm IST - Agartala

A U.S. delegation headed by Consul General for eastern India Helen LaFave would undertake a three day visit to Tripura later this month. A State government official said that the team would arrive on October 28, in what is viewed as an outreach programme in the CPI(M)-led Left-governed State.

The Consul General would pay visit to a few places beyond Agartala, but the official could not give details. He, however, said the delegation members would call on Chief Minister, a few senior Ministers and the Chief Secretary during their stay.

Ms. Helen is also expected to travel to some other States in the northeastern region. The Kolkata-based U.S. diplomat is responsible for all northeastern States, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Only recently British diplomats visited Assam and other northeastern States. U.S. and British diplomats are more frequent to the region than other diplomats.
