Reacting sharply to the fuel price hike announced on Saturday, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said : "UPA is dead, economy is on red alert."

In a post on a social networking site, she said : "Yet again hike in petrol and diesel prices have been hiked. Economy on Red (Alert), people are unfed, UPA is dead".

Ms.Banerjee, whose party came out of the United Progressive Alliance - II last year, protesting the Centre's economic policies said this week that it now seems fortunate that TMC had left the alliance. " They are selling off the country" she had said at a press meet.
