Samajwadi Party MLA from Uttar Pradesh Mahendra Singh was among the six persons arrested by the Goa police on Monday night following a raid at a Panaji dance bar. They have been booked under the Anti-Prostitution Act, the police said.

The U.P. Speaker has been informed of the arrest of the Sitapur legislator, inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai told PTI.

Six girls from Punjab, Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh were rescued during the raid.

Earlier, DSP Mahesh Gaonkar told reporters that two other persons from U.P., Ajay Prakash Singh and Dharmendra Prasad, were arrested. Two others from Nepal and a local who was running the bar were also detained.

The kingpin behind the racket is still at large.
