The conversion programme scheduled to be organised by the Dharam Jagaran Samiti in Aligarh on December 25 could be banned by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The ban is expected after the local law enforcement agencies, in their report to the State government, said the ‘Ghar vapsi’ programme would “disturb” the law and order situation and might lead to communal clashes in Aligarh, known to be a communally sensitive city of Uttar Pradesh.
Rajeshwar Singh, the western U.P. head of the Hindutva outfit, on Friday said he would at “any cost” go ahead with the ‘Ghar vapsi’ programme where about 4,000 Muslims and Christians were supposed to convert to Hinduism.
A senior administrative official in Aligarh told The Hindu that the Chief Minister had ordered steps to prevent any attempt to create communal disturbance.
“After the conversion event in Agra, the State government is maintaining a close vigil on any other event which might disturb communal harmony,” said the officer.
