The defence ministry has started taking over the possession of eight Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs), lying unused for long, in Arunachal Pradesh for their upgradation, Governor Gen (retd) J.J. Singh said on Tuesday.

Addressing the Republic Day rally here, Singh said while the environment clearance for the greenfield airport at Itanagar was awaited, the upgradation of Tezu airport for ATR aircraft operation has been sanctioned by the North Eastern Council.

The work on the railway link to Itanagar and the 1800 KM trans-Arunachal Highway, an important component of the Rs 24,000 crore PM package to the border state, were progressing smoothly, he said.

The pace of implementation of the PM package, announced last year, quickened during the year and all the projects are being monitored regularly at the highest level and also through third party monitors and absolute transparency has been maintained, Singh said.

The governor said the State Information Commission (SIC) in Arunachal brought laurels for the entire state by bagging the first national level RTI award for the best SIC in the country.
