Union leader arrested in DGM burning case

Ten days after the deputy general manager of a private steel plant was burnt alive by agitating workers at Titlagarh, a labour union leader was arrested here in connection with the incident, police said on Sunday.

Gouri Shankar Mishra was arrested from his relative’s house last night on the charge of killing Radheshyan Ray, Deputy General Manager of Powmex Steel on March three last.

With the arrest of Mishra, the number of arrests made in the case rose to ten, police said adding that he was taken to Titlagarh in Balangir district this morning.

Mr. Ray succumbed to severe burns after his jeep was set ablaze by a group of disgruntled workers outside the factory, unit of Graphite India Ltd, when he was going out for lunch.

Three days after the incident, the company declared a lock out of the factory.
