Ukhrul MLA escapes attack

Samuel Rishom, the MLA from the Ukhrul Assembly constituency and his family members escaped unscathed when some unidentified persons attacked their house at Dieulaland in Imphal west district on Wednesday night. However one person was injured by the shrapnel.

The blast took place at 6:45 p.m. while the MLA and his family were inside the house. One person identified as Ramkumar Rai (37) was lounging at the court yard when the blast took place. He was hit in the right ear by the shrapnel. He was rushed to the Christian Hospital located nearby. Hospital sources said that he is recuperating satisfactorily. One parked van of the MLA was also pock marked by the shrapnel.

Police rushed to the spot shortly after the blast. However nobody could be arrested. Police have registered a case. Police sources said that ahead of the last Assembly polls almost all the candidates faced threats from some armed groups.

There has been no claim from any armed group as yet.
