Training his guns on Sharad Pawar for linking the Pune techie murder case with the arrival of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday equated the Nationalist Congress Party president with 26/11 attack accused Hafiz Saeed.
Mr. Pawar has lost his “sense of proportion” after his party's debacle in the Lok Sabha polls and “is speaking like Hafeez Saeed. It is difficult to predict what he will say next,” Mr. Thackarey said.
“After the violence following derogatory posts on social media, Mr. Pawar said such forces have raised their head after the Modi government came to power... There was one murder in Maharashtra. What is its relation to the Modi government?" Mr. Thackarey wondered in an editorial in his party’s mouthpiece Saamna .
Mr. Pawar on Sunday blamed the murder of techie Mohsin Shaikh allegedly by Hindu Rashtra Sena on the arrival of the Modi-led NDA government.
A "communal fever" is spreading and incidents of communal violence have increased after the formation of the NDA government, Mr. Pawar said.
Counter attacking the NCP leader, Mr. Thackarey blamed the Pune murder case on the failure of the Congress-NCP government in the State. The Home Department is with the NCP, Mr. Thackarey pointed out.
"When (anti-superstition activist) Narendra Dabolkar was killed in Pune a year ago, Modi government was not in Delhi. Mr. Pawar’s government has not been able to find the accused till date. Mr. Pawar should know that Modi government was not in power when (Ajmal) Kasab and others attacked Mumbai (26/11 attack),” Mr. Thackarey said.
He also alleged that NCP Minister Jitendra Awhad did not allow police action against goons in Mumbai-Kalwa area in Thane as the culprits belong to a specific religious community.
