Two under-trials escape from sub-jail

Two under-trial prisoners, including a murder accused, escaped from G. Udaygiri sub-jail in Kandhamal district of Odisha on Tuesday evening.

It is suspected that they may have jumped over the boundary wall of the sub-jail to run away.

According to Deputy Inspector General Prisons, Gopabandhu Mallik, senior superintendent of Berhampur circle jail Raghunath Majhi has been sent to G. Udaygiri to enquire about this jail break. Basing on the enquiry report action may be initiated against jail staff, if found guilty of negligence in duty that enabled the escape.

The two, who escaped out of jail, are Pankaj Digal from Upperdandikia village and Suresh Naik of Panchayat Sahi village of Raikia police station area. Pankaj had been arrested in November 2015 in connection with a murder case and Suresh was arrested on March 18 this year in a theft case. According to inspector-in-charge of G. Udaygiri police station, S. Hansda efforts are on to track down the two fugitives with strict vigil on all escape routes out of G. Udaygiri area.
