Two unclaimed bags at CST create stir

Rumours rife that they contain Rs. 2 crore after anonymous phone call

May 08, 2011 12:54 am | Updated 01:17 am IST - MUMBAI:

Two unclaimed bags deposited in the cloakroom of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) created quite a stir on Saturday as rumours of them containing Rs. 2 crore cash flew thick and fast.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) on the spot told mediapersons they were probing the suspicious luggage on the basis of an anonymous phone call on the Railway police helpline. The caller who said the bags contained cash, however, did not specify an amount, Assistant Commissioner of Police B.A. Thombre said.

“We don't know if Rs. 2 crore is in the bags. They have not yet been opened. They still have the RPF [Railway Protection Force] seal, marked at the time of luggage check-in. We would be waiting for the stipulated period of time for the claimant, before opening them in the presence of police and Income Tax officials.”
