Two minor girls of a residential school for tribals in south Chhattisgarh were molested for months allegedly by the hostel warden’s husband. Police said preliminary medical tests had not confirmed rape, but there was ‘enough evidence’ of sexual exploitation and torture. After recording the statements of the girls, cases were registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
Chief Minister Raman Singh said the police would track down the accused and stringent punishment would be given.
It was alleged that the hostel superintendent’s husband targeted the two girls and repeatedly molested them over the last few months. He also used to beat up and abuse nearly 40 other girls, it was alleged.
As per new government guidelines, no male employee, superintendent or their relatives are allowed inside any girls’ hostel.
“We are interrogating the warden,” said Narayanpur SP Amit Kamble.
