Two top Maoist leaders arrested

Two top Maoist leaders were arrested from the outskirts of the city on Friday. One is the lone member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) central committee from the northeast, Aklanta Rabha alias Maheshji, and the other is central training instructor for Jharkhand Siraj Rabha alias Vijay Rabha.

Inspector General of Police (Central Western Range) L.R. Bishnoi told The Hindu that the two were arrested from Jorhat at 6 a.m. when they were proceeding to Meghalaya. They were allegedly planning a propaganda campaign in the Khasi Hills areas. Aklanta hails from Dudhnoi area in Goalpara district and Vijay belongs to Boko area in Kamrup district in lower Assam.

A .22 bore pistol, 240 rounds of ammunition and four mobile handsets were seized from the duo. Police have also arrested Aklanta’s wife Rekharani Rabha in Goalpara.
