Two suspected terrorists belonging to the Hizb-ul Mujahideen were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday from the Kotla area in the Nurpur sub-division of Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, the state police said.

The two, hailing from Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, were masquerading as manual workers and tried to flee when intercepted by the police.

Jameel Ahmed (35), son of Mohammad Ibrahim from Doda, and Gulam Nabi (20), son of Balyal from Marmat village in Goa Banoli (Doda) — were carrying fictitious identity cards. They came to Himachal in November and planned to stay till April-end, Kangra SP Daljeet Thakur said.

The police recovered a country-made pistol from them. Jameel was suspected to be the Doda district commander of the Hizb-ul Mujahideen, while Gulam Nabi was his associate.

A joint team of the Himachal and the Jammu and Kashmir Police is interrogating the two, but details of the investigations have not been disclosed. A case has been registered against them under Sections 419, 122, 123 and 34 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.
