Two poachers arrested

Two poachers were arrested with arms on Tuesday night when they tried to sneak into Kaziranga National Park in Assam to kill rhinos, said a senior Forest Department official on Wednesday.

The two poachers were taken into custody from Harmoti Chapori under Bagori range of the Park when they were almost ready to strike in the World Heritage Site, Divisional Forest Officer Subhashish Das said.

Stating that the duo was identified as Ashito Musahari and Md Nur Islam, Mr. Das said one .303 rifle and five live ammunitions were recovered from them. The operation against the poachers was led by KNP Assistant Conservator Bagori range Ramen Das and jointly conducted by the Jakhlabanda police station Officer in-Charge and In-charge of the Bagori outpost.- PTI
