Two NDFB(S) ultras, wanted in connection with the massacre of Adivasis, were on Saturday killed in an encounter with a joint team of Assam Police and Army.

Based on specific intelligence, personnel of the Assam Police and Army launched an operation in Oxiguri village in Chirang district early on Saturday, Inspector-General of Police, BTAD, L.R. Bishnoi said.

“Two hardcore NDFB(S) militants were killed in the encounter,” he said.

The militants were identified as Gwndai and Junthi, both ‘platoon commanders’ of the NDFB(S).

“They were responsible for the massacre of Adivasis on December 23, 2014.

“They had also brutally killed a Class 10 student, whom they suspected of being a police informer,” Mr. Bishnoi said.

He said one M-16 rifle along with magazines, an AK-47 rifle with magazines and one pistol were recovered from them along with a huge quantity of ammunition and other personal items.
