Two more held in Dalit atrocity case in Shirdi

The police have arrested two more persons in connection with the atrocity case in Shirdi, where a Dalit youth was brutally killed for keeping a ringtone of a song on Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Deepak Manjre and Shoaib Shaddir have been arrested and remanded in police custody till June 6 and May 29 respectively. The total number of arrests in the case now stands at six, with two more accused still absconding, Vivek Patil, Deputy Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu .

Mr. Patil said the police have a watertight case against the assailants and electronic evidence of their act.

On May 16, eight youths from Maratha and OBC communities assaulted and killed 25-year-old Sagar Shejwal, following an altercation over his Ambedkar ringtone. They beat him and crushed him under a motorbike. Sagar died of multiple fractures.
