Two unidentified persons barged into the Lucknow office of the Justice Vishnu Sahai Commission, probing the Muzaffarnagar riots, on Wednesday and made an abortive bid to decamp with some files.
When the “chowkidar” (guard) protested they accosted him at pistol point and threatened him with dire consequences if he raised an alarm. The two persons left soon after.
The Uttar Pradesh IG (Law and Order), Amrendra Kumar Sengar said the two persons were in their thirties. A case was registered at the Gomtinagar Police station in the State capital against two unidentified persons under the IPC Sections 382 and 411. The FIR was lodged by the guard, Arjun Kumar on Thursday, Mr. Sengar said. Investigations are underway and no arrests have been made.
Following the incident, security has been tightened at the Commission’s Lucknow office located at the Judicial Training Research Institute in Gomtinagar. A head constable and four constables have been posted for maintaining vigil.
The one-man Vishnu Sahai Commission was constituted on September 18, 2013 by the State government for conducting an inquiry into the Muzaffarnagar communal riots. The panel’s main office is in Muzaffarnagar.
