Two militants killed in Manipur encounter

Two militants of People’s United Liberation Front (PULF) were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Monday, police said.

According to police, the militants fired at a joint team of police and Assam Rifles personnel when they were patrolling Heirok and Karongthel area early this morning. In the retaliatory fire the ultras died on the spot.

One AK 47 rifle, one 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunitions of different weapons were recovered from the spot, they said, adding it was the first encounter between militants and security personnel this year.

Last year, more than 400 persons, including about 300 militants, were killed in militancy-related incidents in Manipur.
