Two J&K police officers attached in CD case

November 25, 2011 02:02 am | Updated 02:02 am IST - SRINAGAR:

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday attached a Senior Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Police to pave the way for an inquiry into the surfacing of a CD that showed them interrogating a businessman to extract information about politicians, police officers and journalists.

The CD had caused embarrassment to the Omar Abdullah government and raised many eyebrows.

SSP Vigiliance Basant Kumar Rath and SP Kulgam Mubassir Latifi were attached with the police headquarters by the Home Department pending inquiry into their conduct. The order was issued after it was approved by the Cabinet, which met in Jammu with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the Chair.

Principal Secretary Home B. R. Sharma told The Hindu that the Cabinet took a serious view of the matter and ordered their attachment. “A preliminary report has been sought from the Director General of Police and further investigation would be conducted as per rules.”

Meanwhile, the Cabinet ordered a reshuffle at the top level in police and transferred 22 officers.
