: At least two persons were injured when two buildings collapsed in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh on Thursday evening.
Located next to each other on Arya Samaj Road, the buildings were in a dilapidated state. The collapse happened around 5.30 p.m., and began with the building which was lying unused. Jagpreet, an e-rickshaw driver who witnessed in the incident, said the structure collapsed in a matter of seconds.
“Had people been in that building at that time, there would have been no survivors. The collapse caused the neighbouring building to fall as well,” said Jagpreet.
The first collapse had alerted the occupants of the other building that has a shop on the ground floor and residence on the first.
“We heard loud sounds of rubble, and realised that the neighbouring building had collapsed. We all rushed downstairs immediately,” said a woman, Shakuntala.
Unlucky lot
Most of the occupants managed to rush out on time, barring Shakuntala’s relatives, Narender and Vidya. A portion of the building fell on them just as they were about to escape. Locals rushed to the victims’ aid, and they were rushed to Lady Hardinge Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The police are probing who was responsible for the accident.
