Two men have been arrested for the alleged gang-rape of an 18-year-old girl from Assam at a house in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The accused are also from Assam and one of them was her friend.
The arrested men have been identified as Rahul and Haroon and are in their twenties.
In her complaint, the victim told the police that the incident took place at the rented accommodation of Haroon where she and Rahul had gone.
“The girl had known Rahul for many years and both had gone to Kerala on a holiday. She alleged that he had promised to marry her and live in Delhi. After staying in Kerala for many days, the two reached Delhi on Friday evening. Haroon received them at the railway station and brought them to his house in Mahipalpur,” said a police officer.
The same night the two raped the girl and dumped her in an unconscious state in Mahipalpur.
On Saturday, a police control room van spotted her when she regained her consciousness. Not being familiar with anyone in the city and due to language problem she had difficulty in explaining the sequence of events, said the police. However, looking at her condition, the policemen realised there was a problem. She narrated the incident to a female police officer and a case was registered.
The policemen took the girl to identify the spot of the crime. However, she was confused and took some time to locate the house. By then the accused had fled from the spot. They were subsequently arrested and produced before a magistrate in Saket court who sent them to police remand.
