Two persons, including a child, died after coming into contact with a live wire at Thakurpukur here on Sunday, while local train services were disrupted in the Sealdah South section, as a squall, accompanied by rain, lashed several areas.

Inspector-General of Police (Law and Order) Surajit Kar Purakayastha said both the 10-year-old girl and her 42-year-old companion were electrocuted, as they touched the wire which had snapped in the storm.

The storm affected the local train services in the Sealdah South section, as a tree fell on the overhead line near the Garia station, sources in Eastern Railway said.

The operation of trains between Sealdah and Lakshmikantapur, Canning and Diamond Harbour remained affected since 6.30 p.m.
