At least 15 persons are feared injured in a grenade explosion at a bus stand in Magam township of the Central Kashmir Budgam district, on Srinagar-Gulmarg Road where the Union Minister and the National Conference candidate in Srinagar-Budgam constituency Dr. Farooq Abdullah was scheduled to address a campaign rally in the afternoon.
Official sources told The Hindu that the blast occurred at 11.40 a.m. at the crowded Magam busyard where preparations were underway for Dr. Abdullah’s election rally. Nine of the injured were rushed to two hospitals in Srinagar and some of the people with minor injuries were treated at the local sub district hospital.
SP Budgam Mohammad Irshad who was on way to Magam said that it was being ascertained whether it was a grenade blast or an LPG cylinder explosion in a vehicle as had been indicated by preliminary reports.
Earlier in the forenoon, a suspected militant threw a grenade towards Dr. Abdullah’s rally at a marriage hall near Gausiya Hospital in Khanyar area of Srinagar interior. Officials said nobody was harmed.
