The police on Monday claimed to have busted the high-profile murder case in which a 25-year old girl, Poonam Tiwari, was thrown from the seventh floor of an apartment complex in Lucknow, although the main accused is still at large. The victim and the accused were allegedly involved in a sex racket that was being conducted under the facade of a massage parlour in a rented flat in Kalyan Apartments in the Indira Nagar area here .

Giving details of the breakthrough , ADG ( Law and Order ), Brij Lal told reporters here on Monday that Krishna Kumar Singh and Rakesh Tamta were arrested from the Polytechnic crossing late on Sunday night. Mr. Lal said the two along with the main accused, Irfan-ur-Rehman alias Monu Singh, were present in the flat when the murder took place. The ADG said investigations revealed that Poonam Tiwari was thrown from the seventh floor flat by the three following which they left the apartment complex together.

Belonging to Lucknow, both Singh and Tamta are accountants in the UP Cooperative Bank in Hardoi and Lucknow respectively, Mr. Lal said.

Regarding the motive of the crime, Mr. Lal said they were regular visitors to the flat and on the fateful night ended up having a tiff over a dispute on some issue. He did not elaborate.

The name of another girl and the deceased's friend, Neha Fatima, had surfaced during the course of investigations with some reports stating that she was present when the incident occurred. The ADG said Neha had left the apartment before the girl was thrown off the flat. “A sex racket was being run in the apartment in the name of the massage parlour”, the ADG, Law and Order added.

Mr. Lal said a manhunt has been launched by the police to arrest Irfan-ur-Rehman, who is said to be the mastermind behind the massage-parlour and the alleged sex racket. It has been alleged that the main accused was in regular touch with some politicians and officials, who were allegedly provided with massage parlour services.
