Assam Rifles has detained two suspected extremist collaborators from a city area here on Friday afternoon.

Subscription receipts of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and fake Indian currency were recovered from their possession.

Officers of the paramilitary force, which was originally deployed in counter insurgency operation in the State, conducted the raid on a house on Pragati Road in city’s Lake Chowmuhani area. Police were informed prior to the raid and a search conducted in the presence of police officers.

One of the detainees who rented the house is a police constable, a source said. After interrogation, Assam Rifles handed over Jatish Debbarma and Indrajoy Reang to police. Personnel of 166 Territorial Army assisted 8 Assam Rifles sleuths to make the arrests. The detainees were working as collaborator of the NLFT that has now become almost non-existent in the State. Sources said two youths, believed to be hardcore NLFT extremists, managed to escape ahead of the raid.
