Twelve people killed in landslides

Twelve people, including children, were killed and 13 others injured in landslides triggered by heavy rains in suburban Andheri, police said on Friday.

The landslides hit LBS nagar at Sakinaka on Thursday night, damaging around 15-20 houses, the Additional Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta said.

Ten fire engines are engaged in removing the debris from the spot.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Friday announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh to family members of each of those killed in the landslides.

Families of each of those injured will get between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000.
