The communally sensitive area of Yakutpura once again became the scene of trouble as two communities indulged in stone throwing following a dispute over an open ground.

The clash broke out around 11 pm on Thursday and the State Reserve Police had to fire five rounds in the air to bring the situation under control.

The area near Sarasiya Lake has a mixed slum settlement with an open ground in the residential locality. Earlier in the day, children from two communities had a disagreement over playing which group should be playing cricket. Trouble began when stones were pelted on women who were performing a local ritual at the lake in the evening, Vadodara Police Commissioner E Radhakrishnan told The Hindu .

“It was a minor incident.. The situation now is peaceful,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

A total of 15 persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
