An alert was sounded along the 856 km-long Indo-Bangla international border in Tripura to check entry of poultry as the neighbouring country was affected by bird flu, officials said today.
Tripura government has asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to keep a close vigil on the entry of eggs and chickens from the neighbouring country and to maintain a surveillance on the poultry farms near the border to check avian influenza, they said.
The State government has also requested the central government to take up with Bangladesh about control of the disease in the country.
“Otherwise it would be difficult to check bird flu in the north eastern states having border with Bangladesh”, they said.
About 40 districts of the total 64 districts in the neighbouring country were affected by the disease.
More than 20,000 poultry and ducks were culled in two government farms in Tripura, near here last month following outbreak of avian influenza.
