The India chapter of the South Asia Media Commission (SAMC) has condemned the Tripura government for ‘failure to maintain order’ and ‘insensitivity’ after the murder of three staffers of Agartala-based Bengali daily DainikGanadoot in their office on Sunday afternoon.
In a statement, the SAMC pointed out that in its first reaction, the State government did not express any ‘concern’ or ‘resolve to apprehend the criminals.’ Instead, the issue had got mired in ‘petty politicking.’
The government must ‘initiate a thorough inquiry, take precautions to prevent such incidents and pay compensation to the victims of violence.’
