“During my visit to Dhaka last month, I met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and spoke to her about the presence of the Northeast insurgents in that country. She assured me that effective steps would be taken against the ultras and they would not be allowed to use the soil of Bangladesh,” Mr. Sarkar told reporters last night.
The Chief Minister said Ms. Hasina also pointed out that some criminals operating in Bangladesh had taken shelter in Tripura and he assured her that if the list is made available to the State government, it would take stringent action against them.
Mr. Sarkar told Ms. Hasina that Tripura Government had sent a detailed list of the insurgent camps in Bangladesh to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and she had also made counter complaints that there were camps of anti-Bangladesh elements in India. “However, when we proposed for joint inspection, there was no response from the Bangladesh side,” he said.
The Chief Minister said Tripura has a long border with Bangladesh so he wanted good relations with the neighbouring country and enhancement of trade and commerce.
