Governor D.Y. Patil has left Agartala on Wednesday to assume office as the Governor in Bihar. The incumbent Governor of Bihar Devanand Konwar has been appointed the Governor of Tripura.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, his ministerial colleagues, Chief Secretary S.K. Panda, leaders of various political parties bade farewell to Dr. Patil after he was accorded the guard of honour at Raj Bhavan. The state government earlier arranged a reception for the outgoing Governor and his family.

Dr. Patil will take charge at Patna on March 22 and would return to Agartala on March 23 to administer oath of office of Justice Dipak Gupta as first Chief Justice of newly elevated Triprua High Court. He would return to Bihar same day.

Raj Bhavan sources said Chief Justice Gupta would administer swearing-in ceremony of new Governor Devanand Konwar on March 25. Mr. Konwar hails from Assam state and for the first time someone from the region made Governor of the state.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar earlier expressed resentment against the central Government for not consulting with the state government over the appointment of new Governor. “The centre breached the convention”, he had regretted.
