Trinamool Congress brought a Privilege Motion against West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacherjee in the Assembly on Friday as Trinamool and Congress legislators disrupted proceedings demanding that Bhattacharjee apologise for the “humiliating” remarks made by him against the Opposition.

In a show of unity, Trinamool Congress and Congress legislators during Question Hour rushed to the well and climbed to the Speaker’s podium demanding that Mr. Bhattacharjee, who was not present in the House, tender an unconditional apology for dubbing the Congress “spineless” and by making “humiliating” remarks on the speech-making skills of the Leader of the Opposition.

Though the Speaker H. A. Halim went ahead with the Question Hour, the proceedings of the House were drowned in shouting by opposition members condemning the Chief Minister’s remarks.

They threw the business papers of the House and some of them, including Trinamool legislators Sonali Guha and Dibendu Adhikary, blew whistles and charged towards the treasury benches and even towards the seats of ministers while ruling Left Front members were seen seated quietly.

Opposition legislators, including Trinamool Congress MLA from Nandigram Firoza Bibi, carried placards inside the House describing the CPI(M) and Maoists as the face and the mask of the “same” entity.
